NORFOLK BASKET COMPANY

Adrian Charlton’s interest in making baskets began in 1985, when he saw a basket maker at a market in North Norfolk, United Kingdom. He was searching for a change of direction professionally and, intrigued by the vast variety of baskets, all with different names and uses, he took an apprenticeship with a master basket maker, where he learned a full range of traditional English willow basketry. His wife, Ruth, joined him in the business in 1997. At their home in Southwest France, Adrian and Ruth cultivate around 20 varieties of willow, which they use alongside varieties from Somerset and the Touraine in the Loire Valley to make a full range of traditional and contemporary work. This foraging basket is Adrian’s own design for which he and Ruth reserve the finest willows. With hand-stitched leather straps for extra strength, it’s great for a trip to the market or foraging for wild fruit in autumn.
